My Five Favorite Albums

Today’s post a day topic is what album you would bring on a deserted island. As I thought this over, I realized I cannot really pick one. So instead, I bring to you the five albums I would bring on a deserted island.

Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie

I love Death Cab (well, after Transatlanticism things got a little iffy) and this is probably their best album. “Tiny Vessels” is probably one of the most depressing and beautiful songs ever, and as it flows into “Transatlanticism,” my heart is happy. The whole c.d. is beautiful with amazing lyrics. I love it.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens

Something beautiful and different. Sufjan Stevens originally claimed he would be making an album of every state, but only created Michigan and Illinois. Still, I’m happy with those two. My favorite on this one would have to be “Casimir Pulaski Day.” What can I say? I like depressing songs.

Lungs by Florence and the Machine

A friend of mine introduced me to Florence and the Machine about a month ago and I’ve fallen in love. The album is beautiful and her voice is unique. “Lungs” is probably my favorite (apparently I typically agree with title tracks…)

Alexisonfire by Alexisonfire

If I’m on a deserted island, I definitely need some screaming, and as of right now, this is probably my favorite, if for the cover art alone. However, their lyrics are also awesome, and since they don’t scream through the entire song, I like it when I’m angry.

The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place by Explosions in the Sky

The cover art may not be as exciting as Alexisonfire, but I love this album. Post-rock is my music for thinking, and once again, if I’m on a deserted island, I’ll need some thinking music.
